Watts Up? (TM)
Mission-
The mission of Watts Education is to strengthen the academic performance of students while improving their social/emotional learning and resilience in school, home, and their personal lives.
Vision-
To increase the low state test scores in districts and improve the graduation rate while improving the economic and educational well-being for all.
Values-
Resilience – We will assist students in building their resilience as it emerges not from special qualities but rather from the everyday ordinary, normative human resources in the minds, brains, and bodies of children; in their families and relationships; and in their communities (Masten, 2001, p. 227).
Caring Adults- We can and will make a difference in the lives of students.
Sense of Identity- We will help students build their self-efficacy; students will achieve what is best for them and identify their strengths and weaknesses to build their resilience.
Beliefs- We Believe:
All students must receive a fair and equitable education within urban, suburban, and rural areas in our nation
Educators and community members should understand resilience in Black and Latino males who dropout, re-enroll and complete their General Equivalency Diplomas or high school diplomas
Students should be held accountable to a caring adult as they build their resilience
Earn their diploma and see it as a symbol of a rebirth
Establish a newfound sense of purpose towards their education and future
The economic future of the nation will improve with an increase in the national high school graduation
Beyond the economic issues, it’s a humane issue that must be solved for the good of all people
